Species Monitoring Project – Great Crested Newts Survey Workshop

The Details:

Learn about species ecology, survey methodology and logging records for each species during training workshops at Clayton Vale Green Community Hub. This in-person workshop will have a classroom session to introduce the species before getting some hands-on survey experience across the Medlock Valley. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned wildlife enthusiast, this workshop is perfect for anyone interested in conservation and biodiversity. Following the workshop, there will be an opportunity to attend 2 more GCN Surveys across different sites within Medlock Valley. Having attended the workshop it would be desirable for volunteers to participate in these surveys. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to contribute to important research while having a blast!

Please note that only the first session will include a classroom workshop with the following dates after the 7th of March comprising of evening surveys only.

Time & Location

• 9.30am – 2.00pm. Please note that we will have a 30 minute break in between the workshop and survey sessions.
• We will meet at: Clayton Vale Tuck shop, Berry Brow, Manchester, M40 1GR for the classroom workshop.

About the site

• Clayton Vale is a publicly accessible green space with a community hub used for a range of volunteer and wellbeing sessions.
• The area where we will be surveying has uneven ground, thick vegetation and ground trodden paths.
• Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
• Free parking is available and toilet facilities are available for volunteer use.

Public Transport

• There is free on road parking on Edge Lane and Millstream Lane.
• The following bus routes stop outside the Tuck Shop (Stop ID: MANDAPGM): 171, 172.
• The Edge Lane tram stop is approximately a 20 minute walk away.
