What to expect: Put survey theory into practice and carry out a Habitat Suitability Assessment and Water Vole Survey.
Learn how to carry out a Habitat Suitability Assessment and Water Vole Survey: Assess the suitability of habitat for water vole and survey the watercourse from the banks for evidence of water vole, including: burrows, latrines, footprints, runs in the vegetation, grazed ‘lawns’, feeding remains and actual sightings.
Survey and record species: Any records of water vole found during the survey, as well any other species identified, to be recorded and submitted.
Please note, this session is following up from a workshop hosted on the 1st of April to introduce Water Vole cology and survey methodology.
It is desirable that you would have attended this before conducting a survey. If you did not attend the workshop, please inform us and contact lizzie@cityoftrees.org.uk or jimena@cityoftrees.org.uk.

About the site
- Millstream Open Space is a publicly accessible green space, adjoined by Clayton Vale which has with a community hub used for a range of volunteer and wellbeing sessions.
- The area where we will be surveying has uneven ground, thick vegetation and ground trodden paths.
- Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
- Free parking is available and toilet facilities are available for volunteer use.
Public Transport
- There is free on road parking on Edge Lane and Millstream Lane.
- The following bus routes stop outside the Tuck Shop (Stop ID: MANDAPGM): 171, 172.
- The Edge Lane tram stop is approximately a 20 minute walk away
