What to expect: Put survey theory into practice and carry out a Habitat Suitability Assessment and Water Vole Survey.
Learn how to carry out a Habitat Suitability Assessment and Water Vole Survey: Assess the suitability of habitat for water vole and survey the watercourse from the banks for evidence of water vole, including: burrows, latrines, footprints, runs in the vegetation, grazed ‘lawns’, feeding remains and actual sightings.
Survey and record species: Any records of water vole found during the survey, as well any other species identified, to be recorded and submitted.
Please note, this session is following up from a workshop hosted on the 1st of April to introduce Water Vole ecology and survey methodology.
It is desirable that you would have attended this before conducting a survey. If you did not attend the workshop, please inform us and contact lizzie@cityoftrees.org.uk or jimena@cityoftrees.org.uk.

- We will meet at at the centre circle in Bank Bridge Meadows before surveying along the Rochdale and Ashton Canal. Follow path into the meadows off Bank Bridge Road, M11 4TT

About the site
- Bank Bridge Meadows is a publicly accessible green space, adjoining Clayton Vale The area where we will be surveying has a combination of formal and ground trodden paths.
- Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
- Toilet facilities will not be available for this site. We will be approx. a 10 minute walk away from an Asda if the toilet is necessary.
Public Transport
- There is limited parking around this site, so please try to use public transport where possible. But if parking is needed there is a small free car park at the junction of Tenacres lane and Riverpark Rd which is an 8 minute walk from site (Marked as Clayton Vale Mountain Bike Trails on Google Maps).
- The 54 bus stops at Phillips park which is a 12 minute walk from site. The 74, 76, 76A bus stops at Riverpark road which is also a 12 minute walk from site
