Treescapes: Voices for the future
Trafford kids share their dreams and demands for the future of our environment.
City of Trees has been working with the Treescapes: Voices for the Future project to engage children in designing, creating and caring for treescapes, including natural woodlands and urban parks across Greater Manchester.
As part of the Treescapes project, City of Trees has worked closely with the children of Seymour Primary School in Old Trafford to help create their very own tree manifesto. The children first engaged in the project two years ago at a planting event and their enthusiasm has only grown. This is demonstrated in the clear demands of their manifesto, ‘Plant more trees, now! Let us have a future’.
With the help of Clear Channel, select images from the manifesto have been displayed to the public around Greater Manchester and Merseyside. A big thank you to Clear Channel for providing free advertising space across a range of sites, through their Platform for Good scheme.
Developed in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University and Mersey Forest, the tree manifesto was brought to life with illustrations curated by Maisy Summer.
This work was kindly supported by the Natural Environment Research Council.
The ‘Voices of the Future’ project aimed to work with diverse children and young people to co-develop more hopeful, equitable, resilient treescapes of the future. For more information about this fantastic project, please visit Manchester Metropolitan University Website.
